Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Andrea Marks serves as the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at The University of Texas at San Antonio. In this role, she provides executive leadership and strategic guidance across a wide range of institutional functions, including finance, operations, facilities, information management, compliance, internal audit, public safety and human resources. A key advisor to the President, the Senior Executive VP of Health Affairs and Health System, and the executive leadership team, Marks plays a central role in advancing the university’s mission of education, research, clinical care and community engagement.

Driving Strategic Growth

With responsibility for over 17,000 employees and an annual operating budget exceeding $2.7 billion, Marks oversees the institution’s business and financial operations across facilities located throughout San Antonio and South Texas. Her leadership supports the institution’s long-term growth and operational efficiency, including oversight of new ventures and site development. Marks was a strategic leader in the development of UT Health San Antonio’s Multispecialty and Research Hospital and helped expand UT Health’s growth from $1B to almost $2B in revenue. She is also instrumental in shaping institutional policy, fostering administrative excellence and ensuring alignment with UT San Antonio’s strategic vision.

Prior to UT San Antonio

Prior to the creation of the merged UT San Antonio, Marks served UT Health San Antonio in progressively senior roles since 2000. She began her tenure as Director of Internal Audit and went on to serve as Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs. In 2010, following a national search, she was appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, a role she held until 2019. In that capacity, she led all fiscal planning and financial operations and supported the President and COO in long-range financial strategy and institutional initiatives. She has more than 25 years of leadership experience in higher education finance and administration within The University of Texas System.

In recognition of her professional achievements and community impact, Marks has been honored with the San Antonio Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award and the San Antonio Business Journal Women’s Leadership Award, which celebrate outstanding leaders who exemplify excellence in leadership, innovation and service.

Andrea is a lifelong Texan and passionate advocate for public higher education and healthcare access across the state. She enjoys mentoring emerging leaders and spending time with her family in San Antonio and Dallas.
