Senior Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Engagement

Karl Miller-Lugo serves as Senior Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Engagement at The University of Texas at San Antonio. A member of the President’s Cabinet and University Leadership Council, Miller-Lugo leads a comprehensive advancement enterprise that includes University and Health Development, Corporate and Foundation Engagement, Donor Engagement, Alumni Engagement and the Alumni Association, and Advancement Services.

With more than three decades of experience in higher education advancement, Miller-Lugo has a strong track record for building high-performing teams, leading transformational campaigns and developing donor-centered strategies that drive institutional growth.

Prior to UT San Antonio

Prior to his role at UT San Antonio, he served as a Vice President with the international consulting firm Bentz Whaley Flessner, where he advised universities on campaign planning, major and principal gifts and advancement operations.

Earlier in his career, Miller-Lugo spent a decade at The University of Texas at Austin, culminating in his role as Executive Director for Fundraising. There, he led principal, major, and annual giving programs and played a key role in the successful completion of the $3 billion Campaign for Texas.

Serving Nationally and Locally

An active leader in the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Miller-Lugo currently serves as Chair of the US/Canada Council. He has served on the CASE Commission on Philanthropy and the faculty of several national conferences. He is a recipient of the CASE Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence and holds the CASE Laureate distinction.

Personal

A native of Puerto Rico, Karl lived in Kentucky for 28 years and has called Texas home since 2006. He is an Ironman triathlon finisher and the proud holder of a Ducktorate Degree from the Disney University. 
He and his wife Jennifer, Program Director for Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Services at Austin State Hospital, have two children: Tristan Chase and Karson McClain, both alumni of The University of Texas at Austin.
