Lisa Campos, EdD
Lisa Campos, EdD, serves as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Athletics Director at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Since being appointed on Nov. 17, 2017, she has made an immediate and positive impact on the athletics department, the university and the community. One of five finalists for the 2022 Sports Business Journal’s Athletic Director of the Year honor, Campos has elevated UTSA Athletics to new heights, most recently leading the Roadrunners into the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2023.
Elevating UTSA Athletics to New Heights
One of Campos’ first tasks upon her hiring was to develop and implement a new strategic plan for the future of UTSA Athletics and align with President Taylor Eighmy’s vision and strategic initiatives for the university. Less than one year later, she introduced the Roadrunner Game Plan, which utilizes three winning values – Excellence, Integrity and Unity – to focus on developing and enhancing the student-athlete experience, creating a culture of excellence, developing resources and uniting the community. The plan’s emphasis to develop champions in the classroom, in competition and in life has been evident during her tenure.
In the classroom, UTSA student-athletes have set numerous department records for academic success, including achieving a departmental-record 90 percent NCAA Graduation Success Rate in the most recent report and consistently recording a department GPA above 3.0.
In competition, the Roadrunners have captured eight team conference championships, including back-to-back football titles in 2021-22. UTSA has made five straight bowl game appearances and won two consecutive bowl games in football. In 2025, the Roadrunners’ baseball team advanced to the first NCAA Super Regional in program history and notched the school’s first-ever NCAA top-10 finish (t-9th) in any sport.
Prior to UT San Antonio
From 2012-17, Campos served as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Northern Arizona University. After beginning her career in higher education as the Assistant Dean of Students at the University of Texas at El Paso, Campos transitioned into the Miners’ Athletics Department as the Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator from 2003-12.
Serving Nationally and Locally
Campos is active in the San Antonio community, currently serving on the Greater: SATX strategic planning committee. She also served on the board of Christus Santa Rosa and was a member of the San Antonio Local Organizing Committee (SALOC) Executive Committee for the 2025 NCAA Men’s Final Four.
