Enriching Campus Wellbeing

UTSA is committed to the wellbeing of each member of the campus community and recognizes that numerous factors contribute to overall wellness: physical and mental health, diet and nutrition, physical activity, stress management and self-care, social behaviors and more. In alignment with the university’s commitment to student success in all forms, the President’s Initiative on Enriching Campus Wellbeing will promote and connect existing health-related services, model best practices, and develop new programming. Though the initiative will focus heavily on mental health at the outset, it will look broadly at eight dimensions of wellbeing — physical, social, spiritual, environmental, financial, occupational, psychological and intellectual — as endorsed by several leading higher education associations. By adopting a comprehensive and holistic approach and initiating a continuing, culturally competent dialogue about health and wellbeing, the university will build a foundation for healthy living for students, faculty and staff both here at UTSA and beyond.

Status Update (Spring 2024)

Initiative co-leads, LT Robinson, Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Students, and Tammy Wyatt, Vice Provost for Student Success, engaged a steering committee to support the development of campus resources and programming to promote all forms of wellness.

In March 2020, UTSA commissioned an external review of Student Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Services by Hodgkins Beckley Consulting, a leading healthcare management consulting agency specializing in higher education. The findings of this benchmarking analysis led to a new interagency partnership between UTSA and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Wellness 360, a signature element through the partnership, adheres to current national best practices and provides free and low-cost clinical services for student health, counseling, mental health needs and services. This strategic partnership also includes initiatives to strengthen signature academic and research programs and improved healthcare support for UTSA Athletics.

Partnerships like Wellness 360 and a suite of related services and new programming are just a few examples of UTSA’s on-going commitment to focus on the eight dimensions of wellness—physical, social, spiritual, environmental, financial, occupational, psychological and intellectual. Using a comprehensive and holistic approach, UTSA remains committed to continuing to offer, expand and evolve our wellness offerings to meet the current and emergent needs of UTSA students and employees. Using the frameworks that have been developed, UTSA will continue to build a strong foundation for healthy living for students, faculty and staff both at UTSA and beyond.
