An Inflection Point: Building toward 2036
On September 1, 2025, UT San Antonio launched a bold new chapter: uniting The University of Texas at San Antonio and The University of Texas Health Science Center to form UT San Antonio—the third-largest research university in Texas. This moment is more than a milestone; it is an inflection point toward greatness. As the region’s only Tier One university with an integrated health enterprise, UT San Antonio is uniquely positioned to advance discovery at scale, transform life-changing care and expand opportunities for all those we serve.
Guided by the conviction that education is the greatest health initiative of all time, UT San Antonio will maximize the conditions where access and excellence thrive together to build a foundation for our future. This commitment to a new model of higher education will unite learning, research, health, and community impact to accelerate social mobility and advance generational progress. To realize this vision, it will take all of us — faculty, staff, students and learners, alumni, donors, and strategic partners — working as one.
Together, we will build a university defined not only by its scale and value, but also by its impact to make lives better today and for generations to come.
Vision for the future
Over the next ten years, UT San Antonio will become a world-class university for San Antonio, the state of Texas, the nation and the world. We will be grounded in excellence—in education, health care, transdisciplinary research and discovery —and will emerge as a preeminent public research university of national and global distinction. UT San Antonio will have an extraordinary impact in education that advances prosperity, in healthcare that makes lives better, and in discovery and innovation that translates into immense benefit to our community.
Our Mission
The mission of The University of Texas at San Antonio is to make lives better by advancing excellence in education; research, discovery and commercialization; health; public service; and community engagement.
