Local colleges part of national coalition for cybersecurity workforce development

Both the University of Texas at San Antonio and San Antonio College are a part of the National Centers for Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity's workforce development program.

The coalition of 10 institutions of higher education aims to address the national shortage of qualified cybersecurity professionals in the U.S. through their educational programs. It's overseen by the University of West Florida, which was awarded a two-year, $6 million grant from the National Security Agency in late October to fund the initiative that will launch in spring 2021.

The program will prioritize recruiting, preparing and placing transitioning military and first responders into cybersecurity roles in infrastructure sectors such as financial services, defense industrial base and energy, according to a news release sent by SAC.
