(Aug. 19, 2005)--The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators has named University of Texas at San Antonio athletic director Lynn Hickey its 2005 Division I-AAA Administrator of the Year. Honorees will accept their awards at the NACWAA National Convention in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 8-11, 2005.
The Administrator of the Year Award, presented by Jostens, is bestowed to NACWAA members whom have made significant contributions as administrators of intercollegiate athletics. This award, recognizing administrative excellence, is presented annually to a NACWAA member in the following categories: NCAA Divisions I-A, I-AA, I-AAA; NCAA Division II; NCAA Division III; NAIA/Junior/Community Colleges; and Conferences/Organizations. "We are honored to recognize these outstanding administrators for their hard work and dedication to the field of intercollegiate athletics," said Jennifer Alley, executive director.
The 2005 NACWAA Administrator of the Year recipients include: NCAA Division I-A – Joan Cronan (director of women’s athletics, University of Tennessee); NCAA Division I-AA – Lauren Anderson (senior associate athletics director/SWA, University of Rhode Island; NCAA Division I-AAA – Lynn Hickey (director of athletics, University of Texas, San Antonio); NCAA Division II – Suzanne Willey (director of athletics, University of Indianapolis, IN); Division III – Cathie Schweitzer (director of athletics, Springfield College); NJCAA – Chris Haines (director of athletics, South Mountain Community College); and Carolyn Campbell-McGovern (senior associate director/SWA, Ivy League).
The Nell Jackson Award, presented by Jostens, recognizes a NACWAA member who exemplifies the courage, outstanding leadership, and vision of Nell Jackson, an advocate for gender equity and diversity. This year’s recipient is Carolayne Henry, associate commissioner/SWA, Mountain West Conference.
Lynn Hickey is in her sixth year as director of athletics at UTSA, after serving as associate athletics director/SWA and senior associate athletics director/SWA at Texas A&M University for the previous 15 years. Hickey is the chair of the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee, a member of the NCAA Basketball Issues Committee and was on the 2001 NCAA Midwest Regional Committee.
She has led the charge for UTSA and its hosting of numerous prestigious NCAA Championship events. UTSA has served as host institution for the 2001 NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Regional, the 2002 Women's Final Four, the 2003 Men's Basketball South Regional and the 2004 Men's Final Four. The University will have host duties for the 2005 Women's Volleyball Championship, 2006 Women's Basketball South Regional, 2007 Men's South Regional, 2008 Men's Final Four and the 2010 Women's Final Four.
While at Texas A&M, she represented the Big 12 Conference as a member of the NCAA Championship Cabinet. Additionally, Hickey was a 2004 NACWAA Institute for Athletics Executives graduate and was inducted into the Kansas State University Athletic Hall of Fame.
