Memorial and Honorary Book Program commemorates legacies
(March 19, 2015) -- The UTSA Libraries Memorial and Honorary Book Program provides a unique opportunity to memorialize someone who has passed away or honor a living individual deserving of recognition. In addition to creating a lasting tribute, the tax-deductible donation is used to support and enhance the UTSA Libraries' collection for the benefit of future generations of students and researchers.
Giving opportunities are available at three levels, starting with the bronze at a $100 minimum suggested donation (special pricing can be arranged for university departments). A gift of $250 qualifies for the silver level, and $500 for the gold. Donors may propose a topic for the book and a subject specialist librarian will select a title appropriate for the libraries' collection.
Memorial and honorary books are identified with a special bookplate and a notation in the book's catalog record. The bookplate includes both the names of the donors and of the person to whom the book is dedicated. A keepsake card and replica of the bookplate is then sent to the honoree, or in the case of memorial books, to the surviving family members.
"The Memorial and Honorary Book Program is a wonderful way to honor someone special who had an abiding impact on those around them," said Posie Aagaard, assistant dean for Collections and Curriculum Support.
