UTSA defends championship title in PINK Campus Showdown
( Aug. 25, 2016) — Last year, UTSA experienced an unforgettable moment through the Victoria’s Secret PINK Campus Showdown that brought the entire campus community together. The showdown was a competition with other universities on social media, and the winner earned a live concert experience by a top 40 artist.
UTSA competed with a huge push on social media in a contest that made tapping a button on the Pink Nation app a campus-wide activity. Because of this joint effort, UTSA won the national contest and EDM superstar Zedd came to our campus for a unique concert experience. More than 15,000 students gathered at the concert to celebrate an unprecedented accomplishment under the flashing lights and pulsating beats.
The best part of that moment was that the UTSA community united to work toward a common goal to support students. UTSA students really wanted to win. We wanted to display to the other schools in the Campus Showdown that UTSA strives for excellence. And we proved ourselves in a way that no one else expected.
All of this started in 2015 when members of the Student Government Association wanted the Victoria Secret PINK collegiate line to include UTSA. The product line included other top-tier institutions but was lacking our traditional blue and orange. A little later that year, that vision became a reality and the UTSA line hit PINK stores in San Antonio. Subsequently, UTSA became qualified to participate in the Victoria’s Secret PINK Campus Showdown. It was our first time to qualify. It was the beginning of something great.
Now, it's time to do it again. The PINK Campus Showdown is back and it is our time to reemerge as defending champions. We will be kicking off the contest by tapping, starting today. This will be followed by multiple social media contests that all lead up to the final challenge: an Instagram video. We are Roadrunner Ready. And we prepared to bring another unforgettable experience to Roadrunner Nation.
Join us as we start tapping today.
