(July 24, 2017) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is the Alamo City’s summer camps destination. Throughout the summer, UTSA will offer more than 60 camps in science, engineering, architecture, sports, music, writing, language, culture and more for kids, teens and young adults.
Campers will develop new skills or strengthen existing ones while experiencing what it’s like to be on a college campus. Campers will work on their athletic skills, build robots, explore archaeological techniques, develop musicianship and even learn Chinese and Japanese languages.
This week, UTSA is offering the following camps:
Archaeology of Ancient Adventures
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Center for Archaeological Research, Main Campus
Campers will participate in indoor and outdoor activities while exploring ancient traders, raiders, and migraters from around the globe. They will discover Roman, Incan and Viking battle tactics, Native American nomads, and find out what sharks have to do with Maya trade routes.
iTEC Camps
Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Main Campus
Campers will explore the fields of science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on activities. This week, campers in kindergarten through 2nd grade will learn about the weather and computer programming. Third through 5th grade campers will explore space science. Campers in 6th through 8th grades will build robots.
Jump Start Math Camp
Monday to Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Main Campus
This fast paced program is for students who took the Math Placement exam and scored just under the acceptable score for entrance into MAT 1093 or 1214. Working in small groups, it prepares campers for success in their future math courses, not to simply pass a test.
Baseball Camp
Monday to Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Roadrunner Field, Main Campus
Campers will join UTSA Baseball coaching staff and players for three days of lectures and drill work in throwing, hitting, fielding, fly balls, base running and bunting. Position-specific work will be covered in the full-day session. Campers will also get to compete in the Roadrunners Olympics and two bag games.
