Six fun opportunities to get involved at UTSA

(Aug. 24, 2017) -- It’s official, ’Runners. School is back in session. No more sitting at home dreaming of what it will be like to finally get back to campus. It’s time for football games, Aztec stairs and Rowdy.

A new school year means new experiences, and there’s no better way to experience new things than getting involved. Whether you’re a new freshman or a graduating senior, putting yourself out there can be scary and intimidating. Here are some tips to make getting involved a little bit easier…

Getting involved can change your whole experience at UTSA.

The Involvement Fair is a great place to start. It’s your one stop shop for more than 350 student organizations at UTSA. This year’s Involvement Fair is Tuesday, August 29 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Sombrilla.

Rowdy Link has all the answers.

Missed the Involvement Fair because of class? No worries. Rowdy Link is UTSA’s directory for student organizations. Use it to search through organizations based on keywords. Each student organization has a page that includes social media and email contact information.

Check out UTSA fraternities and sororities.

The UTSA Greek Life experience connects students with shared interests and values. At the start of the semester, you can find Greek Life events everywhere. Each organization hosts events to help students get to know them. They’re typically free… and who isn’t looking for some free fun?

If a student organization isn’t for you, there are other ways to get involved.

The Roost is a game room located on the second floor of the H-E-B University Center. It’s always hosting events and tournaments. Bring your student ID and you’ll have access to hundreds of video games and consoles, plus a pool table, a ping pong table and other fun activities to chill with your fellow ‘Runners.

Get involved in your health.

Our on-campus health facility, Campus Rec, gives students great opportunities to get involved. The Rec hosts sports competitions throughout the semester, and some even offer cool prizes.

There are workout classes all day long, including kickboxing, paddleboarding and yoga.

It isn’t all about working out either. You can take nutrition and cooking classes, too.

Become a work study.

Get a jump start on your career or other interests while staying on campus and becoming a work study. Build your resume with work experience, and network with UTSA professionals while learning a new skill or interest.
