UTSA hosts Big Data Conference on  October 24

(Oct. 19, 2017) -- Recognizing the benefits and challenges of data analytics, UTSA is hosting the Big Data, Big Challenges conference October 24 to share recent knowledge and experience gained in the area of Big Data by researchers in academia, industry and the government sectors.

Sponsored by Cisco and the San Antonio Life Sciences Institute, the event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the H-E-B University Center Ballroom (HUC 1.104) and is open to the public. Registration is $45 and includes breakfast, lunch and parking.

“Participants will learn about cutting-edge research and best practices in big data,” said Max Kilger, director of the College of Business Data Analytics program. “Looking through an interdisciplinary lens, this topic will be explored within the areas of business, national security, infrastructure, healthcare and visualization.”

The keynote speaker for the conference is Phillip Harvey, director of cyber security innovation at Raytheon Corporation. Conference sessions include discussions on Safe & Smart Cities of Tomorrow, National Security Through Advanced Analytics, Leveraging Big Data for Industry Advantage, Big Data and Critical Infrastructure and Visualizing Health and Bioinformatics.

“We hope this conference will not only address the challenges of Big Data, but provide participants with novel ways to interpret and utilize this information to enhance their operations,” said Kilger.
