(April 18, 2018) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is home to a new Fiesta San Antonio event this year. The UTSA Alumni Association and the San Antonio Parks Foundation have partnered to host the Chaparral Music Festival on Saturday, April 21 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the UTSA Park West Athletics Complex located at 8000 TX-1604 Loop and Kyle Seal Parkway.

The new official Fiesta event features an outdoor concert headlined by Texas country music stars Kyle Park, the George Navarro Band and the Chris Saucedo Band. There will also be a DJ and plenty of food from local vendors. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $20 for UTSA students. Children 12 and under get in free. All proceeds support scholarhips, programs and services for the UTSA Alumni Association and the San Antonio Parks Foundation.
“Partnering with the San Antonio Parks Foundation and the Fiesta Commission is a perfect opportunity for the UTSA Alumni Association to further tie into the history and future of our community,” said Jana Kennelly, assistant vice president for alumni relations and executive director of the UTSA Alumni Association. “Our vision is for the Chaparral Music Festival to become a favorite Fiesta tradition for all San Antonio families.”
Both organizations are preparing for a large turnout as San Antonio celebrates its 300th birthday, and this event is one of the few Fiesta events on the northwest side of the city.
“When the city and Fiesta Commission challenged us to bring our Fiesta event to the northwest part of San Antonio, we couldn’t think of a better location or partner than UTSA," said Mary Jane Verette, president and CEO of San Antonio Parks Foundation.
UTSA alumna and San Antonio Parks Foundation board member April Ancira ‘03 was instrumental in bringing the two organizations together.
“My alma mater is an urban serving university and the partnership between the City of San Antonio and UTSA is nearly 50 years strong,” Ancira said. “It’s time to grow Fiesta events to be inclusive of the northwest area and invite the community to explore San Antonio’s university.”
