(Jan. 14, 2019) – To launch the yearlong celebration of UTSA’s semicentennial and to commemorate the first day of spring classes, students, faculty, staff and visitors are invited to attend the university’s Spring Welcome and UTSA 50th Anniversary Kickoff. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the Student Union Paseo on Main Campus.
Part of the inaugural Roadrunner Days: Spring Edition, the Spring Welcome will feature dozens of UTSA departments and programs lining the heart of campus. Each information table will offer information or fun to celebrate UTSA’s 50th anniversary in addition to informing visitors about smart ways to get ready for spring semester success.
At the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) table, members of the Roadrunner community will have an opportunity to earn a 50th t-shirt by contributing to the celebration in one of three ways.
Social media users are encouraged to take pictures of themselves with their favorite new 50th anniversary signage around campus and post them on their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn channels, tagging #UTSA and #UTSA50. Upon visiting the UCM table to show the staff their posts, they will receive a free t-shirt. One t-shirt will be provided per person to the first 500 participants while supplies last.
Alternatively, members of the Roadrunner community may receive a free t-shirt by recording video messages for UTSA’s 50th anniversary. UCM staff will have a video booth set up adjacent to its table where students can record a “Happy Birthday, UTSA!” message. At the same time, videographers will be canvassing campus to ask Roadrunners to share their favorite things about UTSA on video.
UCM will schedule a t-shirt giveaway in the coming weeks for the Downtown Campus community.
In addition to participating in the Spring Welcome, UCM launched a new UTSA 50th anniversary website today featuring anniversary videos, a historic photo gallery, a UTSA timeline, Roadrunner memories, notable alumni, a list of signature events for the 50th and a special 50th anniversary issue of Sombrilla magazine. The UTSA 50 website will be regularly updated with fresh stories throughout 2019.
Celebrate UTSA’s 50th Anniversary and share social media posts about the 50th using the hashtag #UTSA50.
