FEBRUARY 26, 2020 — Whether you prefer to run or walk, the UTSA Alumni Association 36th annual Diploma Dash City Championship 5K is a great opportunity to get your department, family and friends together for a great cause.
Sponsored in part by Credit Human, Diploma Dash brings alumni, faculty, staff, students, community members and even some canine runners together to participate in a certified 5K race around Main Campus.
The race, scheduled for 8 a.m. on Feb. 29, will begin at the Convocation Center, and participants are also invited to a postrace celebration, with sponsors offering food and drinks.
Diploma Dash began in 1985 and is now one of San Antonio’s largest chip-timed racing events. It all benefits the worthy cause of helping UTSA students.
—STEVE WOODALL, Interim Executive Director of the UTSA Alumni Association
“Supporting scholarships for incoming and current UTSA undergraduate and graduate students has been the purpose of Diploma Dash from the very beginning,” said Steve Woodall ’11, interim executive director of the Alumni Association. “Students benefit greatly from the scholarships, and it wouldn’t be possible without everyone who comes out for this competitive, yet family-friendly event.”
The UTSA Alumni Association awarded $150,000 in scholarships this year, rewarding top students who need financial support to continue their education and ultimately graduate. Most recent figures indicate that 75% of UTSA undergraduates are eligible for financial aid, so scholarships are crucial to student success.

Diploma Dash 5K is open to all individuals, friends, families and teams with 14 age categories, including Masters, Team Challenges, UTSA Students, UTSA Departments and ROTC Students. Even the top dog is recognized. Individual winners receive medals, and team winners receive a plaque.
“The more participants we have sign up,” Woodall said, “the more we can give back to our present and future Roadrunners.”
