Campus dispatcher passes away after short illness

IN MEMORIAM

FEBRUARY 20, 2020 — James Garcia, a police communications officer with the UTSA Department of Public Safety, passed away on Feb. 5 after a short illness.

A competent dispatcher, Garcia was also a family man, a man of faith, and a friend to anyone who knew him.

Garcia’s smile would light up the room, his colleagues said, and he would often drop what he was doing to assist them.

Garcia began working at UTSA in 2004 in the Office of Facilities before transitioning to the UTSA Police Department in 2006.

He was awarded Dispatcher of the Year in 2012, a testament to his commitment to make UTSA a safer place. Garcia left a lasting impact on those he connected with and will be missed by his UTSAPD family.

A celebration of Garcia’s life will be held on Feb. 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Main Building, Regents Room (MB 3.106). This service is open to the UTSA community for anyone who would like to pay their respects.
