UTSA provides May 4 digest of remote-operations news and tips

MAY 4, 2020 — UTSA is committed to supporting the university community during remote learning and operations. Here is your latest digest of university news and tips. 


COMMUNITY NEWS


Giving Tuesday NowGIVING TUESDAY REMINDER: President Taylor Eighmy and UTSA Annual Giving have issued the Chancellor’s Challenge, an online fundraising campaign for #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5, to raise an additional $25,000 or more for the Student Emergency Fund at UTSA. Donations will add to the $25,000 allocated by UT System Chancellor James Milliken. #GivingTuesdayNow is a global day designed as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. All UTSA supporters who are able are asked to step up for Roadrunner students.

SMART VIEWING: If you’ve missed any of the recent livestream events with our experts, you can watch the recorded streams on the Trainings, Webinars and Town Halls page. But here are events coming up this week:

  • What Might K–12 Education Look Like in the Fall? The abrupt switch to remote learning this spring magnified educational disparities in San Antonio. As school district leaders and teachers contemplate the upcoming academic year, many questions remain. Next in the Community Conversations series, UTSA’s education experts will offer insights on the many considerations faced by superintendents, teachers, parents and students as they anticipate how best to adapt to new ways of learning in a COVID-19 world. Wednesday, May 6, noon.

  • COVID-19 Funding Landscape and Awards Management: Listen to perspectives and live chat with panelists on the evolving pandemic-affected funding landscape, including tips on how to interpret sponsor guidelines, deadline flexibility and more. Thursday, May 7, 2 p.m.

MAKING SUMMER A SUCCESS: Academic Innovation’s series of webinars for instructors continues this week with resources and best practices for quality online teaching. Each webinar is open to anyone who supports student learning, including teaching assistants, graduate assistants and academic support staff. If you miss a live broadcast, they’re saved for later viewing. You can also explore the Remote Teaching Resources page for additional guidance.

FIND HEALTH SOLUTIONS: Check out the Living Well Webinars from UT System coming next week. All UTSA employees, retirees, spouses and dependents age 18 and above who are covered by the UT SELECT Medical Plan are eligible to participate.

  • Tech Neck: Technology has improved our lives in many ways. Unfortunately, it could be to the detriment of our necks. Learn about the common conditions caused by repetitive neck stress and valuable tips to prevent the onset of pain. Registration required to receive Zoom info. Tuesday, May 5, noon.

  • Work of Art: It’s almost time for the spring wellness challenge. Learn skills to foster resilience and boost happiness. Available on Tuesday, May 5, 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, May 6, noon via GoToMeeting.
