UTSA welcoming thousands of new Roadrunners via online orientation

UTSA welcoming thousands of new Roadrunners via online orientation

JUNE 12, 2020 — During this time of year, UTSA’s Main Campus is normally buzzing with thousands of fresh faces. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, though, UTSA is now offering orientation online for the safety of its new students.

Online orientation will provide incoming students with a preview of their first year at UTSA. Although the venue has changed, the importance of this milestone experience remains the same. It’s a unique virtual activity that features engaging modules and videos that will kick-start a student’s academic journey.

New to orientation this year is the opportunity for students to connect virtually with their academic college, along with select university departments and affinity groups. The goal is to create a sense of belonging through interactions with faculty, staff, students and leadership.

College meetings will be hosted throughout online orientation during the months of June and July. Each session will showcase the academic college and provide a time for students to interact with faculty. Students can sign up for a meeting on the Bold Futures website.

Select university departments and affinity groups (first-gen, transfer, veteran and more) will also be available for live chat sessions. These casual, student-led conversations will give new Roadrunners the chance to ask questions and learn more about their university community.

Academic advising and course registration is also being held virtually. Within three weeks of completing online orientation, students will be contacted by their academic adviser to schedule a virtual appointment to select classes, discuss their major and learn how to register on ASAP.

Although this is a challenging time, UTSA is helping new students rise to the occasion by offering online orientation and new virtual opportunities. Together, we are Roadrunners. We are resilient and we are Roadrunner strong.

For questions about online orientation, college meetings or live chat sessions contact Orientation and Family Programs at 210-458-4724 or orientation@utsa.edu.
