SEPTEMBER 18, 2020 — UTSA has received national recognition from the 2021 Best College Rankings by U.S. News and World Report as well as The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education 2021 College Rankings.
In the 2021 Best College Rankings, UTSA placed in 44th out of 398 schools nationally for social mobility. In Texas, UTSA placed fourth out of 28 other state universities.
Because economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics, US News & World Report uses its social mobility rating to measure how university’s work to set these students up for success, including by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants. UTSA earned a 44% graduation rate with these students. This is the second year U.S. News has published the social mobility ranking.
UTSA’s rank moved up in the social mobility category from last year’s Best College Rankings. Last year UTSA ranked at 62nd out of 381 schools. In Texas, UTSA was seventh out of 28 schools.
The Best College Rankings evaluated more than 1,400 colleges and universities on 17 indicators of academic quality.
For the WSJ/THE 2021 Best College Rankings, UTSA stood out in the Environment category by placing in the first decile with a rank of 79th and a score of 74.6 out of 100.
The Environment category measures faculty diversity, international students, student diversity and student inclusion.
WSJ/THE’s Best College Rankings, which is designed to put graduate success and student learning at the center, uses 15 individual performance metrics before being grouped into four pillars, Resources, Engagement, Outcomes, and Environment.
