University extends campus closure to Monday, February 22

FEBRUARY 19, 2021 — Due to ongoing weather and utility issues impacting Texas and the San Antonio area in particular, UTSA is extending the current campus closure until Monday morning. 

• All online/virtual and in-person classes and meetings are canceled until 7 a.m. Monday, February 22. Faculty are reminded there should be no required deadlines for course assignments during the campus closure.

• All university events, programs and activities are canceled, including athletics events.
  

• Thermal plants at the Main Campus have been impacted by power outages and water pressure issues. UTSA Facilities is successfully maintaining comfort heating in Main Campus buildings that have priority functions, such as specialized classes, teaching labs, core services, animal holding and research. Buildings at the Downtown Campus and Institute of Texan Cultures are not impacted at this time.

• As a result, some face-to-face classes on the Main Campus are being relocated to reduce the thermal load on affected buildings. All in-person classes in the following buildings will be relocated until further notice beginning Monday, February 22: Business Building, Main Building, McKinney Humanities Building and Multidisciplinary Studies Building. Class locations have been updated in ASAP; students should check ASAP to confirm classroom locations. Additionally, students and faculty in impacted classes have been notified by the Registrar with details.

• Staff and faculty with offices in the Business Building, Main Building, McKinney Humanities Building and Multidisciplinary Studies Building who have been working on campus should plan to wear multiple layers, since buildings likely will be cooler than normal. Alternatively, they can contact their supervisors to discuss options for working remotely.

• The John Peace Library has resumed normal hours: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
  
  
• All UTSA-owned and -managed residence halls currently have full power and water. A few buildings have experienced leaks, and staff are working to clean up and assist any affected residents.

• The Roadrunner Pantry will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday to provide food and personal care items to students, staff or faculty who need assistance.

• Members of the UTSA community in need of a temporary space to warm up, recharge their phones or access wi-fi service may visit the Recreation Wellness Center at the Main Campus. This temporary warming station will be open Friday until 10 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday 8–11 a.m., 2–4 p.m. and 8–10 p.m. At other hours on Sunday the RWC will be available for recreational use. Normal hours will resume on Monday at 6 a.m.

• A Student Emergency Fund for eligible students and a Staff Emergency Fund for eligible full-time staff and full-time fixed-term-track faculty have been established to provide emergency grants for essential supplies.

• The university will extend the spring 2021 semester. Additional information regarding the adjusted academic calendar and payment deadlines will be shared early next week. The Spring Break holidays will continue as scheduled.
