FEBRUARY 3, 2021 — The University of Texas at San Antonio has launched a national search for the next vice president for university relations to elevate the university’s strategic vision among its many stakeholders, locally and nationally.
As a member of the senior leadership team under President Taylor Eighmy, the VPUR cultivates strong relationships with a broad range of diverse audiences while working closely with other vice presidents to advance UTSA’s reputation as a great public research university and national model for student success. In their role, the VPUR provides leadership to all communications, marketing, community relations and government relations functions at UTSA.
The search committee is chaired by Carlos Martinez, chief of staff in the Office of the President, and includes a diverse representation of faculty, staff, students and community leaders.
“Our Vice President for University Relations plays a pivotal role in both cultivating UTSA’s external relationships and telling our story to the world,” said Eighmy. “I am looking forward to adding a talented person to my senior leadership team who has a strong track record of fostering collaboration, strategic partnerships, accountability and public trust.”
UTSA’s inaugural Vice President for University Relations, Mary Larson Diaz, announced her retirement in May 2020. Since that time, Rod McSherry, UTSA’s Associate Vice President for Innovation and Economic Development, has served in the role as interim.
Diversified Search Group, an executive search firm with deep experience recruiting higher education leadership, will assist the search committee in their work to identify high-caliber candidates.
The new Vice President for University Relations is expected to be appointed by May 2021.
