Faculty and staff members needing
access to sensitive resources via the UTSA administrative network will
be required to install and use the VPN client. It is also recommended
that antivirus software is installed as well. Faculty & staff
only - login will be required.
General Recommendations:
WINDOWS VISTA - If upgrading to MS WINDOWS
VISTA® from MS WINDOWS XP®, please uninstall
all versions of UTSA's VPN client from your computer. Then reinstall the
latest VPN client afterWINDOWS
VISTA® is installed.
If you are using Windows XP, OIT requires that you install Service Pack 1 before installing the VPN
client. We also strongly recommend that you visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and
apply the latest critical patches for your OS.
OIT strongly recommends the installation of
anti-virus software on any machine connecting to the UTSA
network via the VPN. UTSA is providing McAfee® VirusScan®
to faculty and staff for download and installation. McAfee®
VirusScan® is licensed for use by faculty and staff on
personal machines for the duration of their employment at
UTSA and as long as a valid licensing agreement is in
place. This software is designed to work with Windows 2000
and XP only.
OIT recommends that a personal firewall be
installed on any machine connecting to the UTSA network via
the VPN. Free firewall software is available for download,
however, only Zone Labs® ZoneAlarm® has been tested with the
VPN.
OIT also recommends the installation of
utilities such as Ad-aware® to check your computer for
adware and spyware.
