Reactivating your Blackberry

First you need to determine what version of software your device is running. Select the OPTIONS icon on your Blackberry, then click "ABOUT." This will give you the version of software that is running on your device. If you are running version 4.0 or higher, follow the directions below to reactivate your device. The procedures below were intended for software versions 4.0 and higher, but in some cases, the procedure will also work on lower version numbers.

  • In order to per form the reactivation sequence, you first need to make sure you have a wireless signal.  After you confirm this, you can proceed with the directions below.
  • Starting on the "home screen", go into the options area, scroll down and select "security."
  • You should now see an icon that says "wipe handheld."  This will erase all settings on the device, but any email or calendar information that is still in your mailbox will be resynchronized after activation.  Click the "wipe handheld" icon and then click "yes" to continue.
  • In the dialog box that opens, you will need to type the word "blackberry" without the quotes.
  • After the device restarts, the wireless antenna icon will show that it is disabled.  Click the wireless antenna icon and turn it back on.
  • The first icon on the top row of your device should now be the "Enterprise Activation" icon.  Open this icon and enter your email address.  This screen will also prompt you for a password; this is NOT your network login password, contact the Help Desk at extension 5538 for this information.  After you have entered your email address and password, select "activate."

After following the procedures above, you should have communication re-established with the Blackberry server. Send yourself a test email message and then try replying to it. If you are able to send and receive the message, your device is working properly.

Older versions of the Blackberry devices (lower than 4.0) will need to be brought into the Help Desk for reactivation. Please bring your Blackberry device along with the cable and cradle to the Help Desk, Science Building, room 1.01.10, or contact them at extension 5538.
