Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics

Welcome to the LRSG!

The Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics (LRSG), established in fall 2004, was initially funded by UTSA with further support from the U.S. Department of Education through the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP). Additional funding supports to the lab include NASA, NSF, NOAA, ONR, USGS, and other agencies and institutions.

The LRSG group is primarily working on projects related to four fields:

  • Arctic and Antarctic sea ice and its ecosystem and climate connection
  • Assessment of water resources in the Tibetan Plateau through studying change of glacier lakes, glaciers, and snow cover under climate change
  • Remote sensing of surface hydrology and modeling (precipitation, snow cover, soil moisture, land surface temperature, evapotranspiration, etc.)
  • Remote sensing of Martian minerals/rocks and surface processes
