Joe Tobares currently serves as the Director of Learning Technologies and Enterprise Managed Customer Solutions for the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He is responsible for leading the operation, support and advancement of technology in learning spaces and desktop solutions on campus.
Tobares earned a Masters of Education in Instructional Technology (2012) and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (2002) from the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 2003, the Texas State Board for Educators certified him as a certified teacher in the state of Texas. In addition, he has16 years of experience in higher education classroom technology support and management. Tobares specializes in technology design for classroom and learning spaces. He researches new and innovative technology to advance the learning process and explores how it can assist with various pedagogies in different disciplines.
In addition, Tobares oversees technology configuration solutions for all desktop computing at UTSA, which include image creation, software licensing, emergency notification tools, systems reporting, incident and service request tracking and automated desktop data backup. He is dedicated to understanding the university’s business goals and providing solutions that help keep UTSA moving forward.
Tobares has presented at numerous conferences and events, served on project and conference committees, and been appointed to numerous product development boards because of his expertise in the technology field. He is also the cofounder of the Academic Technology Unconference that brings together people who work with and support instructional technology and strive to improve their campus technology and pedagogy.
