Rename the Main Campus

September 4, 2019

Dear Roadrunners,

As part of the bold vision for UTSA to be an urban-serving university of the future, we are focusing on the strategic growth and development of all four of our campuses.

The nomenclature we use to describe our campuses is important. Through the many stakeholder conversations we had in conjunction with our campus master planning process over the last year, it became apparent that the name "Main Campus" no longer fits the vision of UTSA as one university with multiple campuses.

We heard from both our external stakeholders and Roadrunner community that the current name seems to signify that the northwest campus will always be more important than the others, and that it’s the only campus that really matters.

Based on this feedback, we are embarking on a process to rename the Main Campus. We need your help! From now through September 10, we’re gathering ideas from the Roadrunner community for a new name.

We will compile the best ideas and send another survey later this month, asking you to rank your favorites, and the results will inform the final selection.

You’re probably wondering about the names of our other campuses! We are happy to report that there was general satisfaction with the names for our Downtown Campus and Hemisfair Campus. Once the new name for Main Campus has been selected, we may change the name of our Park West Campus to something complementary.

Thank you in advance for taking time to provide us with your input – we are looking forward to seeing your ideas!
