Roadrunner Traits

Can you believe it? Orientation begins on Monday. We sent the Class of 2015 out with a bang and now I hope that you are as excited as I am about welcoming our newest Roadrunners. Please remember to stop, smile and offer assistance when you see the Class of 2019 and their families.

When I think about all that we do to assist students from recruitment to graduation, I am reminded of something I shared at the Student Affairs Awards Ceremony. Keep this in mind as you navigate a busy summer at UTSA.

People can learn from roadrunners out in the wild. Much of what we do is similar to the roadrunner already. Here are 4 things:

  • Roadrunners are Loyal. They don’t give up. When quitting looks good, Roadrunners work through the really tough problems.

  • Roadrunners are Agile. Agility is defined as the ability to think and draw conclusions quickly; intellectual acuity. Well, that defines Student Affairs.

  • Roadrunners are Grounded. Roadrunners prefer to run, rather than fly. And this gives them the chance to enjoy the journey along the way.

  • Roadrunners are Collaborative. There are so many examples of this, I couldn’t begin to list them all.

In all seriousness, let me thank you all for this past year. We’ve recruited, we’ve danced, we’ve laughed, we’ve cheered, we’ve broken a few cascarones, we’ve worked hard, and we’ve had a lot of fun along the way. And we’ve accomplished so much—in fact, on June 4th, we are going to celebrate your hard work at the Student Affairs Jamboree and I look forward to seeing you there. You made the difference. Let’s have another great year ahead!

Best wishes,

Sam
