Announcing the New Divisional Name
The following message was sent to Enterprise Operations and Strategy employees by Andrea Marks, Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Since coming together as a newly integrated team at the start of the calendar year, we have been intentional about building a shared identity that reflects our new division. As announced at our town hall in January, one of our early priorities was to establish a divisional name that clearly reflects our role within the university.
Previously, Business Affairs was used as a divisional name on the academic campus, with operations being used at the health campus. Today, I am excited to share that, following weeks of thoughtful engagement, our division will now be known as Enterprise Operations and Strategy.
This name is the result of broad and meaningful engagement across the division. We received dozens of thoughtful submissions through the post–town hall feedback form, conducted benchmarking of peer institutions, and engaged in deep discussion and workshopping with divisional leadership. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share perspectives and insights; your voices directly shaped this outcome.
The Meaning Behind Our New Name
Enterprise Operations and Strategy reflects the scope, responsibility and intent of our work:
-
Enterprise signals system‑wide leadership and integration, reinforcing that our work spans the full institution across academic, research, and health missions.
-
Operations emphasizes stability, execution and reliability, all of which are particularly important as we continue integration and strengthen our services in support of our missions.
-
Strategy underscores that our role is not merely transactional; we help shape institutional direction by aligning operational decisions with long‑term priorities.
Together, our name communicates a clear message: we enable the institution to operate at its best while helping translate strategy into coordinated, effective action.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming weeks, we will share our new divisional name with the larger community across the university. Some changes related to our new name will happen quickly, while others — including updates to websites and the creation of new logos — will take time to thoughtfully implement. Sharing our new name with our colleagues and partners is an exciting next step as we move forward as a unified, strong and growing team.
