Accessible Furniture
Services
Student Disability Services (SDS) provides accessible furniture (e.g., chairs and/or tables) for students who are registered with SDS and have been approved for this accommodation.
How to Request Accessible Furniture
- Registered with SDS:
Contact your assigned Disability Specialist to request accessible furniture for your courses each semester. Be prepared to provide your course details (course name, section, instructor, and classroom location). Your specialist will review your request and coordinate placement. - Not registered with SDS:
You must complete the SDS registration process before this accommodation can be considered. Visit www.utsa.edu/disability/accommodations or call 210-458-4157 for more information.
Placement Timelines
- Requests should be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the semester
- Once requested, please allow 10 business days for furniture placement
- Requests made after the semester begins may take up to 3 weeks for placement
During the Semester
- If accessible furniture is removed or unavailable, contact SDS so we can assist in resolving the issue
- If the furniture is being used by others, notify your instructor. Your instructor will have received notification of your approved accommodation
- If issues persist, continue working with your instructor and SDS for support
Faculty Notification
SDS will communicate with your instructor once the furniture has been placed to support implementation of your accommodation.
