Payroll Training

Payroll oversees and administers UTSA's time reporting process. Learn how timesheets are entered by employees and approved by managers using the Time and Attendance tiles in the Employee Self-Service (ESS) and Manager Self-Service (MSS) platforms in PeopleSoft.

A variety of job aids are available to assist you in completing your timesheet. You can pause, rewind, fast forward and adjust the speed of the video job aids. For support on PeopleSoft-related issues, please submit a ticket through ServiceNow.

Absence requests must be submitted and approved in PeopleSoft. For more information, refer to the “Submit or Modify an Absence Request” job aid in the respective drop-down menus below.

Drop-In Virtual Q&A

We will hold weekly virtual Q&A sessions for those who have questions about changes to the timesheet process in effect as of June 2.

  • June 9, 10 a.m.–noon
  • June 16, 10 a.m.–noon
  • June 23, 10 a.m.–noon
  • June 30, 10 a.m.–noon

Employee Classification Types

If you are unsure of your classification, use the job aid below:

Elapsed Timesheets are used by the following salaried employees paid monthly:  

  • Administrative and professional (A&P)
  • Classified exempt
  • Classified non-exempt

Punch Timesheets are used by the following hourly employees paid semi-monthly:

  • Classified non-exempt
  • Student employees

Graduate research assistants, graduate teaching assistants, resident assistants and faculty are not required to submit timesheets.
