Associate Professor, Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching / Kinesiology

Langston Clark’s research interests include teacher education and physical education (P.E.) teacher education at HBCUs and other minority serving institutions, the Black experience in kinesiology, and the intersection of athletics, race and education. He teaches aspiring P.E. instructors and serves as coordinator of P.E. teacher education for UTSA’s kinesiology department. He is also leading the effort in the College of Education and Human Development to encourage more men to enter the teaching field.

Clark has authored or co-authored five scholarly book chapters and published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in academic journals including the Journal of Black Psychology, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education and the Journal of Negro Education. He also serves as a reviewer for multiple journals including the Journal for Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics, the Journal of Negro Education, The International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education and the European Physical Education Review.

Clark has received over a half dozen awards recognizing his contributions to the fields of health and physical education as an early career scholar. This includes the 2023 Piper Professor Award and the Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.

In addition, he is the co-host of “The African Americans in Sport Podclass,” a podcast that offers authentic and academic perspectives of the African American experience in sports.

Clark earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) from The University of Texas at Austin. He earned his M.A. in Adapted Physical Education from The Ohio State University and a B.S. in Physical Education from North Carolina A&T State University.
