Samuel G. Dawson College of Engineering Endowed Professorship
The Samuel G. Dawson Endowed Professorship was established in 2015 by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and UTSA Engineering Advisory Council’s Samuel Dawson. A highly motivated and community-involved Texas native, Mr. Dawson has also served as President or Chairman of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Professional Engineers, Professional Engineers in Private Practice among several other organizations.

Professor, Mechanical Engineering

Millwater joined the faculty of the UTSA Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2001. He served as chair of the department from 2011 to 2014 and subsequently served as associate dean of research and graduate studies in the College of Engineering from 2014 to 2017.

In his role as associate dean, he worked to increase research grant funding for engineering faculty by starting a formal mentoring program for professors, focused on sharing best practices for research productivity and success. 

Millwater’s areas of research interests include computational methods for reliability modeling, material modeling, and sensitivity methods of airframe and nuclear structures. 

He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. Prior to joining UTSA, he served as a research engineer at the Southwest Research Institute. 

Millwater is the inaugural holder of the Samuel G. Dawson College of Engineering Endowed Professorship.
