Professor, Marketing

Yinlong “Allen” Zhang is a marketing scholar whose research focuses on the intersection of consumer psychology and international marketing. Specifically, he focuses on two areas of marketing: the first addresses the role that self-identity plays in a consumer’s information processing about a product; the second addresses how accountability impacts decision-making. He teaches undergraduate and graduate level marketing courses.

Since joining UT San Antonio in 2004, Zhang has developed a high-quality, high-impact research agenda and is considered a formidable force in his field of research. He has published numerous academic papers in top-ranked national and international marketing and psychology journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Academy of Marketing Sciences and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin. Since earning tenure, Zhang has coauthored most of his papers with current or former doctoral students. His students have been placed at R1 institutions such as Texas A&M University (College Station), Wake Forest University and National Taiwan University.

He served as an associate editor for Journal of Marketing Research and won best reviewer awards from the Journal of Academy of Marketing Sciences two years in a row. He was voted the “Best Marketing Professor” by the UT San Antonio MBA association.

Zhang received his PhD in Marketing from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Philosophy in Marketing from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a bachelor’s degree in history from Renmin University of China.
