About the Ithuba Writing Project (Summary)

Classroom teachers in South Africa authored the storybooks in the nine indiginous languages of South Africa by South African classroom teachers and were then translated into English.

We taught 140 South African teachers how to author storybooks for their learners.

The books were delivered to 2,300 rural South African schools.

We taught 8,000 teachers how to use the books and teachers guides in their classrooms!

Over the past three years, the UTSA collaborated with the South African Department of Education to develop and deliver storybooks for learners in grades 4, 5, and 6 as called for in the Textbooks and Learning Materials Program (TLMP).

We produced over 2,300,000 learning materials!
