African Education Initiative (AEI)

Textbooks and Learning Materials Program at the
University of Texas at San Antonio

Recognizing that the education of African children is vital to Africa’s future economic growth and lasting democracy, the Africa Education Initiative (AEI) is designed to improve educational opportunities for Africa’s children so that they may lead happier, healthier lives and become more productive members of society. The University of Texas at San Antonio is one of six Minority Serving Universities who will, under the Textbooks and Learning Materials Program (TLMP) component of AEI, provide a combined 3.6 million textbooks and/or learning materials for children across Africa by September 2008. The UTSA will work with the South African Department of Education to design and develop high quality, cost effective learning materials while developing sustainable partnerships across these two institutions.
