2006 Ithuba Activities--cont.

The Alliance Meeting was held at UTSA in October.  The meeting was attended by key collaborators from the USA and South Africa.  Discussions included the Work Implementation Plan and the Orientation on the Baobab Database. Workshop #1, Developing Stories Workshop, was implemented. Dr. Sailors, Maseko, and representatives of READ and Molteno delivered the Ithuba Writing Project to 18 participants in Gauteng. Manuscripts were digitized and uploaded to the database and the DET Team began preparing manuscripts for second workshop.  Vusi Malindi was hired and put on a Service Agreement with UTSA to illustrate the first 17 titles

Department of Education (DOE) Meeting was held on October 20.  The purpose was to established an aim of the project and the development of books. Several meetings were held in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng to introduce Dr. Sailors and present goals of the project, to gather feedback and clarify role of DOE in the project

Joe Kitts visited UTSA in December to establish a Fast Track Plan to accelerate 15 titles to be printed by September 1.  A petition for additional $470,000 was granted and the budget was modified to reflect the additional funds.

Malindi completed roughs and full illustrations for 17 titles
Malindi hosted a Illustrator’s Workshop to find help find illustrators for the next set of books in May, 2007.
