Welcome to the start of a new semester!

January 17, 2023

Colleagues,

Welcome to the start of a new semester! As a university community, we have so much to look forward to in 2023. This spring will bring some exciting new developments:

  • Welcoming more than 1,000 faculty, staff, students and associated industry partners to San Pedro I’s School of Data Science and National Security Collaboration Center, which celebrated its grand opening ceremony last week among hundreds of university supporters.
  • Bringing students, faculty and staff to Austin for UTSA Day at the Capitol on February 22. This will be an opportunity to amplify our legislative priorities and showcase the university’s momentum.
  • Continuing our Strategic Plan Refresh, which will involve participation across the institution to build on our track record of success, celebrate our achievements to date, apply our lessons learned, adapt to a changing higher education landscape and align our resources to continue our trajectory of transformation.
  • Advancing our Campus Climate Plan through division-specific action plans and follow-up sessions to incorporate your feedback on making UTSA an even greater place to work.
  • Hosting Fiesta Arts Fair, a two-day event showcasing the contemporary art of more than 100 artists from across the United States, at our Southwest Campus.

As we contemplate the year ahead, now is a good time to evaluate where we’ve been and where we’re going next. I’d like to personally invite you to our next campus-wide address, the State of the University, which you can attend in person or watch via livestream.

I look forward to sharing highlights from last year and looking ahead to all the incredible things to come in 2023. You’ll also have a chance to hear from a panel of colleagues and students who exemplify how our individual contributions collectively advance UTSA.

I wish you all a healthy and productive semester. Please know that the work you are doing on behalf of our students and our university is important and valued. Thank you for all you do to make UTSA an exceptional place to learn, work and create bold futures.

With appreciation,

Taylor Eighmy
