As we continue on our trajectory, now is an important time to align our leadership structure to successfully support our strategic destinations and key areas of emphasis. Going forward, there will be two executive vice presidents as members of the President’s Cabinet, one for Academic Affairs and one for Business Affairs.
To support and accelerate progress toward achieving our three strategic destinations, we are excited to announce UT System’s recent approval for the creation of the Regents’ Research Excellence Program at UTSA.
On Monday, April 8, a rare and awe-inspiring event will occur—a total solar eclipse—and UTSA’s Main Campus is in the path of totality.
Today, we are pleased to announce that we are launching a university-wide staff compensation study in partnership with WTW, a global consulting leader recognized for their work with numerous higher education institutions.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) provides an important opportunity to reflect on the issues of sexual violence and its effects on survivors, and UTSA offers various ways for you to connect to resources to promote healing, advocacy and prevention.

As the semester draws to a close, I want to take this time to reflect on recent activities on campus. First and foremost, I want to especially thank our student community for navigating this complex period of time. It’s very much appreciated as we look toward final exams, Commencement and summer sessions.
I am deeply saddened to share that we lost a member of our community yesterday. Our entire community is feeling a sense of pain and grief, especially those who knew him best, and we know this impacts us all in very different ways. We are here for each of you—in any way you want or need to receive support.
It is with great excitement I share that, effective immediately, Dr. Heather Shipley will assume the permanent position of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The UT System Board of Regents has asked Chancellor Milliken to work with us to develop a plan to merge UTSA and UT Health San Antonio to create a premier university that brings all of our individual academic, research and clinical strengths together to build a unified and profoundly impactful university of the future.
As you learned yesterday, we’re beginning a bold journey toward integration with UT Health San Antonio as we join forces to build a world-class university.

It’s been three weeks since we announced UT System’s visionary intent to integrate UTSA and UT Health San Antonio to build a world-class university for our community, state, nation and the world. Today, we’re pleased to introduce the integration process and share the launch of a new joint website to serve as a centralized hub of information about the integration.
In our last update, we introduced the process to unify UTSA and UT Health San Antonio into one world class university. In that message, we also announced the launch of an integration website to serve as a resource for updates, timelines, progress and more. Today, we’re writing to share the next steps of the process.

We are reaching out to our entire campus community to reaffirm our commitment to a zero-tolerance environment for sexual assault. If you need support or want to learn more about how to support others, we encourage you to explore the free resources available to you.
While we recognize the significance of today, we also know how important it is to live out this commitment every day. We encourage you to reach out to friends, peers, and colleagues on a regular basis to check in, offer support, and let them know they are not alone.
In our last email, we outlined recent progress made by our Integrated Steering Committee including updates on our new joint mission statement and the launch of four task forces. Today, we’re writing to share the latest developments.

Three years ago, we launched a comprehensive strategic plan to increase compensation, and we have remained committed to investing in our faculty and staff with numerous strategies implemented in fiscal years 2022, 2023 and 2024. Compensation remains at the forefront of our priorities, supporting our strategic destination to be an innovative place to work, learn and discover.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude for your service to our nation, as well as your contributions to UTSA.
Today, we did something at UTSA that we’ve never done before by pausing classes for a full day to center on our community’s mental health and well-being with a Day of Reflection.
We know there are deep concerns about the well-being of members of our community as we witness an increase in stress, anxiety and uncertainty across our campuses.
We’re advancing steadily toward the outlined goals within phase one of our projected, multi-year timeline.
To support continued growth, I’m writing to announce several administrative leadership updates.
On November 19, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-48. This order creates additional requirements for Texas public higher education institutions and other state agencies regarding activities involving China, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Russia and Venezuela.
Today, we’re writing to share further progress and forecast what you can expect to learn more about early in the new year.
It has been an extraordinarily busy season, filled with many opportunities for the growth and advancement of our university, but with some challenges too. As we close out this semester, we want to take a moment to celebrate how far we have come as a campus community.
In an effort to support the continued well-being of our campus community, UTSA will proceed with remote operations on January 2 and 3. Overall, our goal is to reduce on-campus operations on these days, and we ask that employees conduct remote operations whenever possible.
