Curriculum Sub-Group Update

The Downtown Campus Curriculum Sub-Group has started with a feasibility phase in March prior to the official launch of the Downtown Campus Presidential Initiative. The goal of the Downtown Campus Curriculum Sub-Group is to develop and implement a series of strategies to increase UTSA’s academic course offerings at the DT Campus. With a focus on the incoming class, first-year students in the College of Architecture, Construction, and Planning, College of Public Policy, and Mexican American Studies in the College of Education and Human Development will have the opportunity to begin their undergraduate career at the Downtown Campus without having to commute between the two campuses.

For Fall 2018, Using a two-day course schedule (Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday), incoming students can enroll in 12-15 hours at the DT Campus. First-year students can select from a pre-set block schedule that groups 25 – 44 students in a set of courses and/or choose from other course options. The course offerings were coordinated to provide students with multiple scheduling options, reduce time conflicts, serve students’ diverse backgrounds, and ensure progress within their degree program. As an added feature, UTSA will provide a shuttle service to and from the DT Campus in Fall 2018. With the added courses, continuing students can increase their course load at the Downtown Campus.

For Spring 2019 and onwards, the sub-group is analyzing academic programs from the standpoint of core courses and electives, developing strategies to effectively integrate course scheduling, classroom scheduling, and advising to adopt a student-centric approach.
