Downtown Campus supports Westside community toy drive

In December, the Campus Experience sub-group of the Downtown Campus Task Force led an effort to bring campus departments together to participate in a toy and gift drive for families in need. Donations were collected for the children residing in nearby Alazan-Apache Courts, a public housing community on San Antonio’s Westside. Valero Corporation has led the effort for this toy drive for the last 21 years and through the generosity of our faculty and staff, UTSA participated in this year’s toy drive. 

Toys were distributed at the 21st Annual Alazan-Apache Holiday Party on Thursday, December 20 at the Guadalupe, which drew more than 350 people. In addition to donating toys, games and gifts, UTSA volunteers also assisted with gift wrapping and event setup.   

It was a fun and meaningful way for UTSA and its Downtown Campus employees to be a community partner and engage with our Westside neighbors.
