FAQs

Q: What is the  Student Code of Conduct   and where can I find it?

A:  The Student Code of Conduct outlines the standards of conduct expected of students enrolled at the university. It also outlines the administrative due process afforded students and disciplinary sanctions that may be imposed for violations.

Q: What is a referral?

A:   A referral is the first step in the student conduct process. It describes an academic or behavioral incident that allegedly violates the Student Code of Conduct. Referrals are submitted to Student Conduct and Community Standards for review and follow-up.

Q: My professor met with me for alleged academic dishonesty. What happens next?

A:   You may be able to resolve the situation with your professor by signing the  Faculty Disposition of a Scholastic Dishonesty Case   form and accept their recommended academic sanction. You will be referred to Student Conduct and Community Standards to review your case. If you choose not to sign the form, Student Conduct and Community Standards will meet with you to review the incident. .

Q: I’ve been summoned to Student Conduct and Community Standards. What happens next?

A:  Your summons email will state when you are scheduled to meet with a coordinator for your initial meeting. During your meeting, you will discuss the referral of the alleged violation, the Student Code of Conduct and questions you may have about the conduct process.

Q: Where is Student Conduct and Community Standards located?

A:  We are located on the main campus in the Student Union 2.01.04, on the second floor, above Freebirds and the Ski Lodge

Q: To my knowledge, I haven’t violated the Student Code of Conduct. Do I still need to attend my meeting?

A:  Yes. A summons to Student Conduct and Community Standards does not mean you are automatically found in violation. You will discuss the alleged violation with a coordinator during your initial meeting. If you do not attend your initial meeting, a hold may be placed on your MyUTSA account.

Q: Do I have to attend my initial meeting alone?

A:  No. You may bring a support person. Once you’ve arrived to your meeting, you both will be asked to complete an Authorization to Release form since we will be discussing matters pertaining to your educational record.

Q: I was found in violation of a section of the Student Code of Conduct. How is my case resolved?

A:  Violations are solved by a Waiver or a Hearing. If you accept responsibility and/or acknowledge what the university is holding you responsible for, you may resolve your case through a Waiver. If you dispute the allegation, you may resolve your case through a formal Hearing. A Hearing is the formal decision‐making process where a fair and impartial Hearing Officer will listen to evidence presented by both you and SCCS in order to make a decision about the alleged violation(s) and any resulting recommended sanction

Q: I think someone I know has violated the Student Code of Conduct. What do I do?

A:  Students are encouraged and expected to report any knowledge of an alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Student Conduct and Community Standards has two types of referral forms found on our website: academic dishonesty and behavior. If you have concerns regarding a fellow Roadrunner's behavior, you may submit a referral or consult with our office.

Q: Who can I tell if I am concerned for a fellow Roadrunner’s behavior?

A:  If you feel a Roadrunner has exhibited concerning behavior, you may submit a report to the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) website. For more information regarding BIT, visit  www.utsa.edu/bit.

Q: I am a faculty or staff member, how can I refer a student to Student Conduct and Community Standards?

A:  You can refer a student by completing the appropriate referral form. If you are referring a student for suspected academic dishonesty, please complete the  Faculty Disposition of a Scholastic Dishonesty Case   form. After completing the form, you will need to review it with your supervisor for a signature before submitting it to our office.
