Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler! Let The Good Times Roll the Rowdy Gras way!

Every spring, the Student Union hosts Rowdy Gras, a UTSA Tradition. This event serves as our own unique Student Union version of Mardi Gras, hosted the Roadrunner Way! The goal of this cultural event is to educate our campus about the rich culture of Mardi Gras and bring together the UTSA community for a fun and memorable experience.

Students will get to enjoy traditional Mardi Gras food, free t-shirts (while supplies last), and music! Rowdy Gras will also provide entertainment through airbrush tattoos, caricatures, face painting, a photo booth, and a stilt walker! The crowning ceremony will reveal the next Rowdy Gras Royalty!

If you need accommodations to fully participate in the program/event, please contact the Student Union at (210) 458-4735. Please allow sufficient time to arrange the accommodation.

Juneteenth Celebration!

Juneteenth Celebration 2022

The annual Juneteenth Celebration commemorates the day the Emancipation Proclamation was finally enacted in Texas and acknowledges the freedoms we often take for granted as we continue to fight for liberation from racial injustice. UTSA first celebrated Juneteenth on the Main Campus in 2017 as a collaboration between the Student Union, African American Studies, and the Multicultural Student Center.

The entire UTSA community is invited to attend the 2023 Juneteenth Celebration. The event will feature music, food, performances, and an opportunity to meet and connect with the UTSA community.

What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is often cited as African-American Independence Day. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, an estimated 250,000 persons were still enslaved in Texas for 2 ½ additional years until Major General Granger landed in Galveston, TX on June 19th, 1865 with news that the war had ended and the enslaved were now free.
