(Nov. 19, 2014) -- The UTSA Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies is seeking presentation proposals for its Texas Foreign Language Education Conference (TexFLEC), which is Feb. 20-21 in the University Center on the UTSA Main Campus. The proposal submission deadline is Dec. 5.

This year's conference theme is "Educators Equipping Language Learners for Future Success: Practices, Policies and Curriculum." The annual conference brings together researchers, educator and students in the fields of foreign language education, teaching English as a foreign or second language, linguistics and applied linguistics. TexFLEC participants have the opportunity to share ideas and the latest research.

Bridging the gap between research and practice is an inevitable challenge in the field of foreign/second language pedagogy. TexFLEC features research studies and practice-oriented presentations that establish strong connections between theory and practice in diverse contexts. The goal is to offer an interdisciplinary forum for research findings with implications for the classroom and pedagogical approaches to language learning grounded on empirical findings.

Following is a list of categories to use as a guide in developing a proposal:

  • Applied linguistics
  • Bilingual and multilingual communities
  • Curriculum design and development
  • Discourse analysis
  • Foreign/second language acquisition/pedagogy
  • Heritage education
  • Language planning and policy
  • Language testing and assessment
  • Language and culture/identity
  • Language and technology
  • Psycholinguistics
  • Social and cultural contexts of learning and teaching
  • Sociolinguistics
  • Text/corpus linguistics

Individual proposals will be accepted for these session types:
