A Message from UTSA President Ricardo Romo, June 2015
June 22, 2015
Dear Friends,
As you read this, I will be in Georgia for the NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education symposium, where I will be presented with the Region III President's Award. This award recognizes the high priority I place on creating an environment where our students can be successful, and I am humbled to receive it. At the same time, I share it with the hundreds of staff and faculty members who work tirelessly to ensure that every one of our students has a well-rounded educational experience.
This award has special meaning for UTSA because it recognizes the value we place on student success and the work we have done to transform our campus from its early days as a quiet commuter school to today's thriving research university, destined for Tier One recognition.
UTSA has a vibrant quality of student life. With 29,000 students, including more than 4,000 who live on campus, you will see students everywhere virtually any time of the day or night. Our library never closes. There are dining options from before dawn until late into the night. Our recreational and wellness facilities are state-of-the-art. And we are creating new traditions. Our most recent is the lighting of the Monuments at the entrance of our Main Campus. More than 300 different student organizations help our students make meaningful connections on campus and in our community. We are giving students the opportunity to experience new cultures, explore new interests and create new friendships.
Over the past several years, UTSA has increasingly become a destination for top-tier students. They know that our faculty offers superior learning experiences, inside and outside of the classroom. They recognize that UTSA's research programs are thriving and want to be a part of them. They understand that UTSA offers unique opportunities that aren't available at larger academic institutions.
If you haven't been to campus lately, I invite you to come by and see for yourself how vibrant UTSA has become. I am so grateful to our staff and faculty for their help in creating top-tier experiences that will stay with our graduates for a lifetime.
Thanks, as well, to everyone in our community whose support makes it possible for us to provide students with the very best education and campus life. We couldn't do it without you!
Go 'Runners!
