Summer orientation is new Roadrunners’ first taste of UTSA life
(July 18, 2016) — Each week, hundreds of new UTSA students — and their parents — arrive on campus to take part in UTSA Orientation. During the two-and-a-half day program, the Class of 2020 takes the first step of their college journey, and the UTSA Orientation and Family Programs staff is there to guide them.
Today marks the first day of week seven of Orientation, but to UTSA Orientation and Family Programs staff, acclimating the more than 8,000 new students expected this fall to UTSA is just as exciting as it was when the summer began.
“UTSA Orientation has been a blast for us, students and parents alike,” said Cassandra Delgado, program coordinator of family programs for UTSA Orientation and Family Programs. “Every time students and their parents come to Orientation, there’s a sense of excitement in the air. It’s infectious, and we’re all excited to be guiding them to this new leg of their journey in life.”
The UTSA Orientation staff, including this year’s Orientation Leaders, help introduce the new students to UTSA’s top-tier academic and research programs, campus services and traditions.
“Each week, we see students and families taking those first tentative steps, and it makes us feel happy about the work we’re doing,” Delgado said. “These new Roadrunners want to be a part of and engaged with UTSA. Our staff is all about instilling that sense of UTSA pride in them and their parents.”
With the fall semester fast approaching, Delgado said she and her fellow Orientations and Family Programs staff are excited to see the new students embark on their first semester in college.
“UTSA Orientation is about coming together as a community and welcoming new members to our community,” Delgado said. “In the fall, UTSA’s going to officially meet the 8,000 plus new Roadrunners on campus, and I think they’re going to really like them. I know we did."
There are two more Freshmen and Family Orientation sessions this summer, including the one beginning this week. A one-day Orientation for Coordinated Admission Program (CAP) students will take place on July 28, and an International Student Orientation is scheduled August 15-17.
