Hosted by the UTSA Institute for P-20 Initiatives, the event takes place Saturday, March 2 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Buena Vista Street Building Lobby on the UTSA Downtown Campus. This year’s theme is Engage-Educate-Empower. Families will choose from various sessions covering several topics including financial aid, choosing a college major, scholarships, summer internship opportunities, high school graduation plans and more. Attendees can also attend the Out of School Time Fair to speak directly to staff and learn more about area enrichment opportunities. They will also hear from keynote speaker Vanessa Sansone, UTSA assistant professor of higher education in the Department of Education Leadership and Policy Studies.

“Parents are critical to student success. It is important that families receive the information needed to help them prepare their children for academic success as early as possible. The P-20 Summit on Parent Engagement has become an annual event that provides this much needed resource. Our goal is that parents and students will leave this event with information that will empower them.” said Belinda Saldaña Harmon, senior director of community outreach in the UTSA Institute for P-20 Initiatives

The P-20 Summit on Parent Engagement is a collaborative effort between UTSA’s Institute for P-20 Initiatives, HEB, ESC Region 20, The Alamo Colleges, Communities in Schools, Valero, Cafécollege, SAISD, and UTSA’s Academy for Teacher Excellence.

The Institute for P-20 Initiatives at the University of Texas at San Antonio provides the required leadership necessary to enable pre-K through 20 students to develop and complete their educational goals through collaborative partnerships with K-12 and postsecondary institutions as well as those within the greater San Antonio community.
