MAY 25, 2020 — Students in UTSA’s Class of 2020 took on near-celebrity status on Friday, May 22 in a nostalgic new university tradition: Commencement Drive, a parade around Main Campus with decorated autos and honking horns.
UTSA Police Department led the parade, while family members and friends joined students in their cars to free them up to take photos and wave to supporters along the route who had gathered to cheer them on ahead of the weekend of virtual Commencement.
Individuals not in San Antonio were invited to join the celebration as well, wherever they were, by honking their horns at 4 p.m., when the parade got started. Out-of-town students were encouraged to share videos of the occasion on social media using #UTSAGrad20.
The Class of 2020 will always be in our hearts, and it seems fitting that they began a new campus tradition for future generations to enjoy. Check out a slideshow of the parade, below.
