Roadrunners raised over $150,000 in 2020 SECC donations

Roadrunners raised over $150,000 in 2020 SECC donations

MAY 21, 2021 — The results from the 2020 UTSA State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) are in—and everyone in the Roadrunner community should give themselves a pat on the back. UTSA raised $157,896 during the 2020 giving campaign despite the adversities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This figure could not have been accomplished without the wonderful support of all the volunteers, university vice presidents and area champions, as well as those who contributed to the silent auction.

In addition, the 2020 SECC would not have been a success without the help of three participating UTSA agencies: Roadrunner Pantry, the First Generation and Transfer Center, and the Fostering Educational Success Center. All three are now SECC-approved charities, allowing donors to support Roadrunners directly.

The Roadrunner Pantry helps students reach their full academic and personal potential by providing access to healthy and nutritious foods, which was especially important during the pandemic when food insecurity became more prevalent. The pantry raised a total of $14,827.39 for its part of the campaign.

The First Generation and Transfer Student Center is committed to supporting first-generation and transfer students by ensuring they make the most of their university experience through mentorship, student success activities and community building. The center raised $4,652.15 for the 2020 campaign.

The Fostering Educational Success Center’s mission is to support students who have a history of foster care by developing student success through coaching, empowering them to attain their goals and building supportive relationships at UTSA and in the community. The center raised $6,013.06 for the 2020 SECC.

The SECC allows employees of state agencies, junior and community colleges, and universities throughout Texas to donate to a number of local, statewide or national charities in a one-time gift or through payroll deduction. By participating, Roadrunners are able to provide much-needed help to communities on campus, in Bexar County, and beyond.
