AUGUST 11, 2021 — The spread of misinformation through social media and other channels continues to affect COVID-19 vaccine confidence. Opinions, rumors, myths, and falsehoods have risen where there are information gaps or unsettled science, as the public tries to better understand what’s fact and what’s fiction.
To address this persistent problem and answer questions that members of the community may currently have about the coronavirus, UTSA will host a live interactive webinar titled Variants and Vaccines: Separating Fact from Fiction from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 12. San Antonio's preeminent infectious disease experts will gather in this virtual platform to debunk common myths and misinformation about COVID-19.

This conversation will also include ample time for a chat-based Q&A with the panelists. The event is free and open to the public.
Panelists for this installment of UTSA’s Community Conversations are: moderator Bernard Arulanandam, Jane and Roland Blumberg Professor in Biology and vice president for the UTSA Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise; Erica Sosa, associate dean for research and associate professor for the UTSA Department of Public Health; Jason Bowling, associate professor of infectious diseases at UT Health San Antonio; and Thomas Patterson, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at UT Health San Antonio.
