The game, which is an official Fiesta event, will mark the conclusion of the Roadrunners’ spring season of 15 workouts, which began on March 6.
The Roadrunners will kick off their 13th season of play and first as a member of the American Athletic Conference (AAC) on September 2 in Houston.
Under the direction of two-time conference coach of the year Jeff Traylor, the Roadrunners are coming off an 11-3 campaign that saw them capture their second straight Conference USA Championship and play in a bowl game for the third year in a row. This fall also will mark their fourth campaign under Traylor, who owns a 30-10 record (.750) at UTSA.
UTSA has been ranked in the top 25 in each of the last two seasons and boasts a combined 23 wins over that span, the fourth-best total among all FBS teams behind only Georgia (29), Michigan (25) and Alabama (24).
UTSA will face Texas State University for the home opener on September 9 and then host Army West Point on September 15 before closing out the nonconference slate on September 23 against the University of Tennessee at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
Following their lone idle week of the regular season, the Roadrunners will play their inaugural AAC contest on the road against Temple University on October 7 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
UTSA’s first-ever home AAC game will come on October 14 against University of Alabama at Birmingham before returning to the road to play Florida Atlantic University the following Saturday in Boca Raton.
The Roadrunners will host East Carolina University on October 28, travel to Denton to face University of North Texas on November 4, welcome Rice University to San Antonio on November 11 and meet University of South Florida on November 17, for the regular season home finale.
UTSA’s road game against defending conference champion Tulane University is part of The American’s Black Friday selection scenarios. Two games will be chosen by October 9 to be moved from Saturday, November 25, to Black Friday (November 24) among UTSA-Tulane, Tulsa-East Carolina, Memphis-Temple and UAB-North Texas.
The American Athletic Conference Football Championship is scheduled for December 2 and will be televised either on ABC or ESPN.
Kickoff times and television designations for the first three weeks of the season, as well as the season-long weeknight games, will be finalized by June 1. The rest of the schedule will fall under the customary 12-day and six-day selection processes.
